Geologically speaking, time creeps along very slowly. So slowly, changes can be imperceptible. Consider some of the great bodies of water. Lakes in particular tend to remain stationary.  Water levels may change, but boundaries remain a hallmark of consistency.

But not all bodies of water are lakes. Rivers, sweeping with energy and motion, continuously change course, re-mapping themselves along the way.
